Samuel’s Story

"Why would I feed my tube-fed child any differently"

Samuel was born at 27 weeks because of intrauterine growth restriction and preeclampsia. This was going to be a new adventure since I had breastfed all six of his older siblings before baby-led weening to real food. I expressed breast milk for 130 days while Sam was in the NICU. Once the doctor placed a g-tube for feeding him, I spent another 15 months expressing breast milk as I would have if he were able to breastfeed. We eventually knew it was time to look into what we were going to be using for his feedings after what would have been his breastfeeding period of life. We insisted Sam would have real food that was as natural as possible. In my mind, I felt if I would not feed my child the same ingredients orally, then why would I feed my tube-fed child any differently. After many hours of research and due diligence, I found Functional Formularies and Nourish. With a smooth transition from breast milk to Nourish, we have happily been growing for a year.
